Motherhood
This artwork was made as part of the “Vinyl Revisited” project created by Heather Vollans. The concept was for artists to use a section of used vinyl from Heather’s studio in a mosaic artwork.
Here the vinyl provides an outline of an idealised image of a mother and baby rendered in traditional mosaic form with marble. The vinyl is then used to surround this image, its stained and imperfect form speaking to the true messiness of motherhood.
