Artist profile

I am a contemporary artist working in both mosaic and painting, with each medium informing and enriching the other. I have been creating mosaic art since 2001, developing over time a deep connection to this ancient and tactile art form. The slow process of cutting and placing each piece becomes part of a personal journey, with the finished work carrying traces of that experience.
My mosaic works are created using a range of tesserae including smalti glass, marble, natural and precious stones, charcoal and unglazed porcelain. Through largely abstract forms, I explore emotion and aspects of the human condition, allowing the materials themselves to become an active part of conceptual expression. 
Through both oil and acrylic painting, I explore the essence of place, person and story, with a continuing interest in tone, atmosphere, movement and emotional resonance.
